TAKING THE FIRST STEP IS THE KEY
Some will call it foolishness. Others will think that I am crazy. Yet others will ridicule me for what I have decided. But I will press on and push to that goal that has been my dream since I was a young boy. I have decided to climb Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain.
"WHY?" YOU ASK. "WHY NOT?" I REPLY
Climb Everest at the age of 60? Yes, that is my target and I believe I will do it! "But why?" you ask. "But why not?" is my reply.
BUT I HAVE MADE UP MY MIND
I will take 2 1/2 years to prepare but I have made up my mind. I will make that endeavor because I have a dream - a dream that requires me to take the first steps towards that totally unbelievable endeavor. It is something that we have to wrestle with ourselves but it is something that I will have to walk alone through.
THE SOURCE OF MY INSPIRATION
I had the privilege of meeting Khoo Swee Chiow who has since become my good friend. Swee Chiow who is married and has two young children has climbed Mount Kinabalu two times and he has also scaled all the highest mountains of the 7 continents beside walking to the North and South poles. His stories thrilled me to the core and although there are inherent dangers, the lure of moving beyond my own limitations and overcoming my own fears drive me on.
WHAT IS LIFE IF IT IS NOT LIVED TO THE FULLEST?
I believe that God is most important in our existence and beyond what he is to us, we must live life as he has ordained it for us - a life of victories and a life of overcoming the biggest hurdles before us. Yes we all have our Everests and it is how we respond to the overtures of challenges that are set before us that makes our lives count. I pray that you will also take the same steps to climb your own "Everests".
